A MESSAGE TO MEDIA STUDENTS
WELCOME TO THE COURSE!

THE FIRST EXAM OF THE REVISED NEW-STYLE A-LEVEL WAS TAKEN BY YEAR 13s IN JUNE 2019.
IN JUNE 2020, NO EXAMS TOOK PLACE.

COMPARED TO MEDIA COURSES IN THE PAST, THERE'S MORE  FOCUS ON THE MEDIA INDUSTRY,  AUDIENCES & PRODUCTS SUCH AS TV, NEWSPAPERS, ONLINE & SOCIAL MEDIA.
IN ADDITION, WE COVER LOTS OF EXCITING  THEORIES WHICH OVERLAP WITH AREAS SUCH AS SOCIOLOGY, PSYCHOLOGY, POLITICS, BUSINESS, ECONOMICS AND CULTURAL STUDIES.

THE MEDIA COURSE ALSO INVOLVES STUDYING SPECIFIC 'SET MEDIA PRODUCTS' SUCH AS THE MAIL ONLINE, 'THE BIG ISSUE', MINECRAFT, CERTAIN MUSIC VIDEOS AND TV BOX SET DRAMAS.
ALTHOUGH THERE IS NOW LESS EMPHASIS ON FILM, WE WILL STILL COVER SOME KEY  ASPECTS OF MOVING IMAGE ANALYSIS AS IT IS A FASCINATING AREA AND USEFUL FOR POST-18 OPPORTUNITIES.

REMEMBER THAT THE BALANCE OF MARKS IS HEAVILY WEIGHTED IN FAVOUR OF THE WRITTEN EXAMINATION - THIS IS WORTH 70%.  THE PRACTICAL COURSEWORK COMPONENT IS WORTH 30%.

WE HOPE YOU WILL ENJOY THE COURSE. WE CERTAINLY FEEL IT WILL MAKE YOU THINK MORE CRITICALLY ABOUT ALL ASPECTS OF THE MEDIA MESSAGES AND REPRESENTATIONS  THAT BOMBARD US EVERY DAY.
EVERY FRAME A PAINTING IS  an essential site for anyone fascinated by the magic of film.
